Before You ArriveSome Hints To Help You Plan Your Visit... To drive on Nevis: To obtain a local drivers license (required in order to drive in Nevis and arranged for by Island Time’s house manager when you arrange for your car), you must have a valid drivers’ license from home, or an international drivers’ license. In Nevis, we drive on the left. Currency: Easter Caribbean Currency (ECC dollars or just “EC). Rate is about $2.67 EC to one USD ($1). US dollars are also accepted at most places, as are major credit cards. Drinking water: Island Time collects rain water in cisterns beneath the house. It is filtered and excellent to drink. The water at restaurants on the island is safe to drink. Bottled water is readily available. Bringing food into the country : You can generally bring in food for your own consumption. Wine and liquor is limited to one bottle each, and you can purchase both on the island (rum is MUCH cheaper than wine, which is relatively expensive). Food shopping in Nevis : There are several pretty well-stocked grocery stores in Nevis. The closest to Island Time is Ram’s, about a 15 minute drive. There are also several grocery stores in town and around the island. For fresh produce, head for Mansas in Cades Bay, or to the local market in Charlestown (especially on Saturdays). Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available at all grocery stores. There are also bakeries and fresh fish markets. Our house management team can provision for you for your first day, or for your entire stay. Weather: The best time to visit Nevis is NOW. It’s always beautiful.
